Carrying on a family tradition of creating beautiful smiles.

My passion for orthodontics was something that seemed very natural as I was born the year that my father graduated from dental school. He chose to specialize in orthodontics, bouncing me on his lap while studying for exams. I grew up in my father’s Oak Park orthodontic practice and worked in the office from an early age, sweeping the floors, cutting grass, and eventually working in the lab.

Growing up, I was able to watch the effect that my father’s orthodontic treatment had on his patients. The treatments they received improved their self-esteem, happiness, and health—and made such a positive difference in their lives. I believe that is where my passion for the practice of orthodontics first started. While following my dad was never expected of me, it seemed to be a natural path to follow.

I attended Loyola University‘s School of Dentistry and qualified for the honors program during my senior year. This program allowed me to explore orthodontics as a specialty and permitted me to treat several patients while still an undergraduate. My oldest son was also born that year, and I got to repeat history, bouncing him on my lap while studying for exams in my orthodontic residency. I finished the residency at the top of my class and was invited to return as a part-time clinical professor, something I did for several years.

In 1987, I joined the family practice, working alongside my father until his retirement. That experience was truly a blessing. I consider my patients to be part of my extended family, and I consider it a gift that I have been given to be able to make a difference in their lives.

I believe in helping organized dentistry. I served as president of the Loyola Alumni Association and on several committees for the Chicago Dental Society. I’ve also served as a spokesman for the Dental Society and appeared on radio and television to discuss dental issues.

My partner, Dr. William Beam, and I share a common vision—to create a state-of-the-art practice with exceptional quality of care and personal service second to none. Every member of our incredible staff is also committed to our vision. Bill and I are both Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. Having two board certified orthodontists working together sets us apart, and is just one of the many benefits we bring to our patients.

Personal Life

I am passionate about volunteerism and giving back to the community that has given me so much. I have been a commissioner for the Village of La Grange for many years, while also serving as school board president at our grade school, coaching boys sports, co-chairing of our high school’s Board of Trustees, and many others. I have been very involved with our parish, and have done countless health fairs and community projects for the benefit of our residents.

I live in La Grange with my wife, Grace, and we have three wonderful children and a lovable adopted German short-hair named Gunther. Our oldest son Ryan is married to Taryn and lives close by. Our daughter Laura is a speech pathologist who also lives in the area. We lost our youngest son John at the age of 22. In my free time, I look for any excuse to be outside and enjoy water and snow skiing, fishing, golf, hunting and biking. To satisfy my need for speed, I do some amateur auto racing and am a private pilot. I believe that life is about balance, just like a beautiful smile.
